Paris Renfroe aka PRD is the the designer of the modern miniature M112 Pod House. We’ve seen his work published in the miniature blogs and his work are starting to show up more frequently in collectors online-photostreams. His art work consists of modern, minimalistic and contemporary miniature design, but his main occupation is to make full scale design furniture. 

Paris is currently living in Minneapolis, but will move to Las Vegas very soon. He’s born and bred in the Midwest and has been into modern design all his life. Ever since Paris was in High School, he enjoyed making scale models of cars, and buildings. He was aspired to be an architect, but his schooling led him in the direction of design, as he enjoyed the ‘occupancy’ phase of architecture, much more so than the developmental phase.

The interest for miniatures started about 12 years ago. He got inspired to create his own line of 1:12 scale Modernist line after discovering the lack of selection of modern houses and accessories. He adds a couple of pieces to his line every now and then so it’s fun to visit his website regularly. 

In creating full size furniture designs, many prototypes are needed, and are much more affordable and manageable in a smaller scale. Paris chose the 1:12 scale because of the accessiblity to other accessories, such as doll house miniatures. Many of his clients appreciate the detail in his designs, and request to keep the prototypes when the job is finished.

When it comes to inspiration, it’s everywhere. Ever since he can remember he’s been fascinated with buildings and construction. Even when going to shopping malls he recalls being intrigued by the design of the shops, rather than the products they sold.

He has an extensive architectural and design book collection, and subscribes to magazines such as Dwell, Metropolis, Interior Design, and Metropolitan Home. He brings his camera along when he travels and takes plenty of pictures of buildings that catches his eye. Many of his designs are his own original designs, but almost all of them are inspired by existing designs.

Regardless of what scale he works in, the design process is always a joy to Paris, and is what fuels his passion. He’s truly blessed to have such a talent, and are looking forward to his designs being enjoyed long after his lifetime.

Paris is working on new housing concepts, as well as the second phase to the M112 Pods, which will feature stackable units that can be bought individually. He will have some of those up on his website within the next few weeks. He also hopes to be able to start making some commissioned houses later this summer.
